Homework Stations

Okay, I don't consider myself a creative person. I'm not very crafty. I usually try to stay away from making anything crafty or creative. BUT...I saw an idea in a magazine for homework stations and I knew I had to make them for my kids. They LOVE their homework stations. It gives them each a little privacy and space to do their homework. Plus, everything they need is right there-pencils, crayons, markers, stapler, calculator, etc. They are so excited to come home from school and set up there stations. The best part is that they fold up nice and neat and are easy to store.

First Day of School

Monday was the first day of school! I don't know why the first day of school always makes me so sad. I guess it's because it means that the kids are another year older and that makes me sad. Karlee and Brendan were both so excited. Karlee got Mrs. Wood as her 4th grade teacher and already loves her. Brendan got Mrs. Endsley has his Kindergarten teacher. The first thing he said when I asked how his day went was..." The teacher did not answer all my questions. I kept raising my hand and she only called on me once." I told Brendan that he needs to practice listening, not just talking:) He did tell me that Mrs. Endsley was really nice and fun.
The picture below was taken after school, because I forgot to take their picture in the morning. Yes, I know, I am not winning any mother of the year awards.

Great America!!

One of my favorite parts about our summer trip to California is going to Great America. I LOVE Great America! We used to go a lot when I was a kid and I love it just as much now as I did then. This year, it was just me, Karlee, Brendan, my dad and Ashley that went. My mom watched Lennon for Ashley and Brent's mom watched Cannen for me. It was so fun to actually get to go on the rides this time! I love that Karlee and Brendan are getting older and can go on the "big" rides. I love that neither one of them shows an ounce of fear! They will ride anything! It was such a fun day and I can't wait to do it again next year.

So while we were there, Brendan and I decided to climb "the ladder". You know those ladders that nobody can ever make it to the top of, but you have to give it a try. The guy even told me the trick to climbing it with out falling, and I still couldn't do it. Brendan actually did really well and made it pretty far up the ladder!

California

So here are the first pics from our California trip. We got here on 4th of July and had a barbecue at my dad's house. it was so fun to sit in the nice cool weather and just hang out. When it got dark, we did fireworks. Cannen loved them! He sat in my lap the whole time and clapped after everyone.
The next day we left to go up to the cabin. We took a motor home up there which was a lot of fun for the kids but not so much fun for the adults. Cannen just wanted to get down and run around the whole time. But Karlee and Brendan loved not having to be buckled in. We had a lot of fun up at the cabin. We played lots of cards, rode the quads and hung out. Cannen loved playing in the dirt. He was dirty from the time he got up in the morning until the time he went to bed, but he had a great time.
One day we decided to drive up to Burney Falls. It was so pretty there. I forget how pretty California can be. We hiked down to the falls and back around to the top of the falls (and yes Ashley and I did this pushing strollers, which I would not recommend). After the long hike we took the kids down to the lake and barbecued hot dogs and let the kids swim in the lake which was freezing from all the melted snow run off.

We had a great time at the cabin and can't wait to do it again next year!

T-ball and Softball

This spring Brendan played T-ball and Karlee played softball. Their seasons just wrapped up so here's a recap...
Brendan played modified T-ball. This means that the coach throws them 4 pitches and then if they do not hit the ball they get to hit off the tee. It was the first season of tball that did not require an adult on the field for every kids that was on the field. They are finally starting to get it! They know where to run when they hit the ball, and they know how to field the ball and make the play. It was really fun to watch. Brendan had the best batting stance, and I am not just saying that because he is mine:) He looked so cute everytime he got up to the plate. Perfect form and he was so serious. Most of the time he was able to hit off the coach and did not need to use the tee. Way to go Brendan!

In the dugout, waiting to bat!

On first base after getting a single!

Karlee played softball. This year was the first year of modified kid pitch. This means that the one of the girls pitches to the other team and they actually keep track of balls and strikes. If the pitcher pitches 4 balls the batter does not get to walk, the coach of the batter's team comes in and pitches to them.
Our good friend BJ was the coach and i was the assistant coach. Which basically meant that I repeated everything BJ said (because repitition at this age is good) and coached first base. I did have a little problem with touching the runners, but we won't get into that:)
I am so proud of this team! After the first practice we had, I will admit that BJ and I were a little worried. We just had a lot of girls who had never played before. But, the girls did awesome. Every girl improved so much! We ended the regular season in 2nd place and then headed to the playoffs where we won all 3 of our games to win the championship!
After the championship game, Karlee was picked to go to the All Star game along with her friends Baylee and Ashley. They won that game too and Karlee was 2 for 2 batting!
I'm not sure who had more fun this season, me or Karlee!

Just a couple of Cannen pics!

I think Cannen gets overlooked on here a lot because Karlee and Brendan are doing so many things. So, here are a couple of pics of my big boy!!

Last Day of School!

Okay this post is a little late, but I wanted to get these pics up! The last day of school was so fun for both Karlee and Brendan. Brendan's class had an outdoor carnival followed by a picnic in the park that parents were invited to. Brendan had such a good time and daddy even showed up for the picnic which was a special treat!
Karlee's class put on a play for the parents to see, followed by awards given out by her teacher Mrs. Anthony. This was a bittersweet day for Karlee. She was so excited to be out of school, but one of her best friends Makenzie was moving to Michigan that day too. It was a hard day for her and a lot of tears were shed. We were all sad to see Makenzie leave, she is such a sweet little girl and such a joy to have around. It was such a hard thing for Karlee to wrap her mind around. Her first lesson on how people come and go out of your life. We will definitely keep in touch though! Karlee has already talked to her on the phone a couple of times.
Overall though, the last day of school was a blast!

Karlee and Mrs.Anthony-She will be one of those teachers that Karlee never forgets. Karlee just loved her!
